Consistency Is Key For Street Stock Driver Travis Hydar at Stafford

(Stafford Springs, CT)—For 16-year old Stafford Speedway Street Stock driver Travis Hydar, the 2019 season has gotten off to a strong start. The driver of the #11 Hydar Construction Chevrolet has been the only Street Stock driver to record a top-5 finish in each of the 7 races held thus far with four 3rd place finishes and three 4th place finishes. Hydar’s performance has landed him at the top of the Street Stock points standings and third in the RSMPCO.com Street Stock Triple Crown Standings heading into this Friday night’s Casagrande Builders 30, the second leg of the RSMPCO.com Triple Crown.

“I’ve been keeping track of the [Triple Crown] standings,” said Hydar. “I’m feeling pretty good about the race. We’ve been super consistent so far this year and we’re hoping we can continue to carry that consistency through this Friday night and maybe even get our first win of the year that we’ve been looking for.”

As stellar as the 2019 season has been for Hydar and the #11 team, the one thing missing is a victory. Hydar has won a race in each of his first two seasons of Street Stock competition at Stafford and with a 5th place finish in last year’s 30-lap Street Stock feature and third place finish in the May 4, 30-lap race, the first leg of the RSMPCO.com Street Stock Triple Crown, Hydar is ready to capitalize on this Friday night’s extra distance opportunity in the Casagrande Builders 30 and notch his first win of the 2019 season.

“I definitely think we’re close and this could be our week,” said Hydar. “It would be awesome to win this race. Between the 30 lapper last year and the 30 lapper earlier this year, we finished really well and we’re hoping we can finish things off and get a win this Friday night. The bonus money that RSMPCO.com is putting up is really cool and we’d love to be able to be in a position to win that. Any extra money we can get all helps with things like tires and fuel.”

Defending Street Stock track champion George Bessette, Jr., Meghan Fuller, Mike Hopkins, and Johnny Walker have all each won a single feature this season while Zack Robinson leads all drivers with three wins, including two in a row. In order for Hydar to join the 2019 winner’s club, he knows he will have to face some tough competition on the track, not only in the Casagrande Builders 30, but for the remainder of the 2019 season.

“The competition this year has been stiff,” said Hydar. “There’s a few cars out there that have been really consistent every week and I think you’re going to see those cars are going to be the ones to beat all season long. Our car hasn’t been perfect but it’s been really good and we’ve carried over some things that we hit on at the end of last season. I feel like we’re lacking straightaway speed compared to some of the other cars out there. Our focus is to keep our consistency running up front every week and hopefully we can be there at the top of the points standings and challenge for the championship at the end of the season as well as the Triple Crown.”

Now in his third season of Street Stock competition at Stafford, Hydar is starting to see the benefits of coming to the track every week having experience to lean on. As a rookie, Hydar posted 1 win, 5 top-5 and 15 top-10 finishes. He increased his production last year to 1 win, 10 top-5 and 17 top-10 finishes, and Hydar has continued to see his on track production increase this year with 7 top-5 finishes in 7 starts.

“Starting out the season, we expected to be a little better than we were at the start of last season,” said Hydar. “Our goal was to be more consistent and run up front and so far we’ve been able to do that and it’s been a nice change from last season. Part of it is staying out of trouble and keeping the car clean and the other part is having a fast race car. Having a fast car is a huge help to stay up towards the top of the field. Having more experience also plays a factor in making smarter decisions. I also have to thank everyone who helps me out, my Dad, Mom, Sister, Uncle Jeff, Ernie, Junior, Harvick, and Nicole, and my sponsors Hydar Construction, ITS Electric, Superior Signs, Superior Comfort, Tools Plus.com, Splash Water, and RB Designs.”

Hydar and the Street Stock field will take center stage this Friday night, June 21 in the Casagrande Builders 30, race #2 of the RSMPCO.com Street Stock Triple Crown.
